Hearing aids work by amplifying the sounds we hear.
- Cheap hearing
aids amplify all sounds, they work like the volume control on a
stereo.
- More expensive hearing aids only amplify some of the sounds.
- They can be adjusted to amplify the sounds you have trouble hearing.
- They work like a
graphic equalizer on a stereo, allowing you to amplify selected
frequencies.
- They can also be adjusted to filter out background noises.
- Test your hearing (video)
- Use the video above to test what frequencies you can hear.
- I cannot hear anything above 8,000 Hz
- The older you get the fewer high frequencies you can hear
- If you are 18 (and have not already damaged your ears listening to loud music), you should be able to hear the highest frequencies on the video
