• Hearing aids work by amplifying the sounds we hear.
  • Cheap hearing aids amplify all sounds, they work like the volume control on a stereo.
• More expensive hearing aids only amplify some of the sounds.
  • They can be adjusted to amplify the sounds you have trouble hearing.
  • They work like a graphic equalizer on a stereo, allowing you to amplify selected frequencies.
  • They can also be adjusted to filter out background noises.

  • Use the video above to test what frequencies you can hear.
    • I cannot hear anything above 8,000 Hz
    • The older you get the fewer high frequencies you can hear
    • If you are 18 (and have not already damaged your ears listening to loud music), you should be able to hear the highest frequencies on the video
