Pony Express

When I was around 7 or 8, I recall reading a book about the Pony
Express. Recently, my mother sent me that very book so that my young
children could read it too. In that book is a story about one pony
express rider who had to ride for many hours in the dark. He was
riding during a war, so he watched his pony's ears for signs of
danger. Why? Because his pony's ears would move in the direction of
any sounds, and the rider could then infer danger from that direction
and ride the other way.
