Honors Seminar 2023

First Assignment: My Bucket List
Revised: 2023-08-02 (2:40 PM)

The concept of a "bucket list" was popularized by the movie of the same name in 2007. See: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0825232/ for a review. The movie starred Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. A chance meeting brought them together and although they came from widely differing social strata they decided to act upon their respective bucket lists before they died.

Your task is to come up with YOUR own bucket list and to write about it in 300 words (and NO MORE). Do not just send a list: http://sauhc.blogspot.com/search/label/Bucket%20List for examples from your Honors College predecessors.

Your Bucket List will be included in your Honors College file. The Honors College will use your bucket lists in the future when we recall your career here and write letters of support for you. Future employers will discover your bucket lists after they search you out on the Internet. Be serious and keep it clean because we will publish these on our blog. Future employers and graduate schools WILL see them.

My Bucket List:

As a grandfather, I plan to spend time with , John Edward Kardas, our grandson. Now, his mother is pregnant again and will deliver in early January. The parents do not yet know the sex of their next child. My wife Julie and I purchased kayaks a few years ago but because of work and visits with our grandson have not had time to float on lakes or streams lately. It would be nice to float the Buffalo sometime soon. Travel calls, especially to Cuba. SAU has sent me there six times since 2015 with the last visit in February 2020 to SAU's sister school there, the University of Artemisa. I'd like to renew those contacts. July and I want to visit Prague and Buffalo to celebrate the marriages, but not the weddings of our son (Clay) and and daughter (Cara). Only one of our three children, Christian, has had a wedding. The others married during Covid and were denied the joys (and tribulations) of a marriage ceremony. Hopefully, the family can substitute visits instead. More personal is my desire to visit the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. I quit playing tennis a long time ago, quit golf more recently, and now I target shoot twice a month in Texarkana. Those competitions are fun and very low key. Many of my fellow shooters are older than I (hard to believe) but all share a passion for marksmanship and accurate firearms. The annual matches at Camp Perry have been conducted since early in the 20th century and draw a great number of shooters from around the world. Finally, I hope to stay healthy, Covid free, and able to participate in the Honors College for a long time to come. (288 words)
